Based on the invitation of Ms. Helena Lindberg, the Auditor General of the Swedish National Audit Office, a delegation headed by Mr. Atom Janjughazyan, Chairman of the Audit Chamber of Armenia, visited Stockholm on December 12-13, 2023. The purpose of the visit was to attend the Steering Committee Meeting for the cooperation project between the SAIs of Armenia and Sweden.
During the meeting, the delegates reviewed the activities carried out from 2020 to 2023 under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Armenian and Swedish SAIs. Parties also deliberated on future initiatives.
Despite external challenges such as the pandemic and periods of martial law, the collaboration has yielded positive results. Notably, performance audit capabilities have been enhanced, with the development and adoption of a performance audit manual. Additionally, several online and on-site training and coaching sessions have been conducted, laying the groundwork for the establishment of The Performance Audit Department within Audit Chamber of Armenia. Progress has also been made in implementing the Audit Chamber's Communication Strategy's Action Plan, particularly in enhancing communication with key stakeholders.
Both parties expressed their commitment to further cooperation, especially in light of forthcoming legal reforms that promise expanded cooperative opportunities in the years ahead.
Beyond the official meeting, the delegation engaged in discussions with management and experts from the Swedish National Audit Office. Topics of mutual interest included HR management, elevating auditor professionalism, ensuring data access for audits, audit planning methodologies, determining the scope of public resources subject to audit, and enhancing communication channels with the Parliament, etc.
